What We're All About

After-school Art & The Environment class at Meadville Council on the Arts (MCA)

The Art & Environment class at MCA is an after school art program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders that focuses on teaching the students about both art and our environment by creating artwork made from recycled and re-purposed materials. The program is held once a week over 8 weeks, in which each week represents a specific lesson that fits into an overarching lesson. The overall goal of this class  is to teach young children about humanity's impact on the planet and what each and every person can do to help, while also teaching them that anything and everything can be made into art that can visually express individual people. This class stresses creative problem solving, which is crucial to addressing the world's environmental problems, as well as creating any type of artwork.
